I dedicate this song to my beautiful sister Gemma who died 7 days before Christmas 4 years ago, and to her wonderful daughter Orla and to all, family and her many many friends who loved Gemma so dearly. There is a tradition in Ireland that when a robin visits it is a sign that their relatives are still around and in the spiritual community. I had one such visit from a Robin in a time of difficulty, which inspired this song as did the annual Children’s carol service which Gemma started and is still held in Gemma’s name every year in Ballymore Eustace, county Kildare. Thanks to all who keep this wonderful carol singing tradition alive. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam dilis, Contae chill mhantáin abú.

Eleanor Shanley sings my song ‘The Gift of Life’ for Organ donation
It was a very special occasion in the Circle of Life Garden in Salthill, Galway on Thursday 30th Nov 2017. It was the 50th Anniversary of the first Heart Transplant which took place in Cape Town South Africa. The Strange Boat foundation organised the event to coincide with events which were held in South Africa, Melbourne, Belfast and Derry. I wrote a song called “The Gift of Life” to commemorate and honor all those who donated their organs and as a blessing for those who have received organs. The song was sung at the event in Salthill, Galway by the wonderful Irish singer Eleanor Shanley. It was such a special moment for me to hear Eleanor sing the song at such a special event, very moving. I met some wonderful people there who told their stories to me, I feel so grateful and privileged that I could write this song.
