I wrote this song after a Robin sang to me one morning one day when I arrived in work. The Robin is often seen as a messenger from a loved one who has passed on. I dedicate the song to my Wonderful Sister Gemma who died 7 days to Christmas in 2013 and to all of us who hold our departed loved ones in our hearts especially at Christmas time. It is a song of hope. Gemma started the carol service in Ballymore Eustace, county kildare where 5 schools now come together every year to sing carols. I am so honoured and moved that these children learned the song and sing it with me in this video
The Robin Song Lyrics
A little bird came flying into my world today
Bringing me good tidings, for my day
From the branch where he was standing
I could hear his prayer
Announcing I love You , before he flew away
Where did you come from and why are you here
I was sent from another world, to tell you not to fear
From a fallen tree his pulpit, sang his canticle of peace
He said, the angels are dancing, your loved one is so near
Chorus
I heard a choir of Children singing, carols by the crib
7 days to Christmas, wonder what the year will bring
A ray of hope it flickers, in the hearts of everyone
Across the world I saw the people living lives of love
Putting up the tinsle, in the tree lined boulevards
and in the hopeless ghettos, heard the singing of a dove
And the carols of the children, sanctified a weary world
Christ I feel you near me, Still forever young – Still forever young.
Verse 2
And the bells they rang for Christmas as the Robin sang
Every note from his red throat sent peace across the land
Cast his spell, as the dewdrops fell, from gutter, fence and hedge
and I knew all at once, everything was well
And the snow capped hills were glistening, and joined us in the song
I thought of when we all were young, in the heart of love belonged
Played our games by the wishing well, made snowmen in the sun
Forever in our hearts you live, forever’s just begun
Chorus – Repeat
